In a significant event marking the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Professor Jaivbo Ojigbo Onyeka, PhD, was appointed Director General Lagos East Senatorial District by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA).
The ceremony, held at the Virginrose Resort Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, celebrated the appointment of new peace ambassadors who have demonstrated exceptional service and excellence in their communities.

In an interview with Premium News Daily PND,Professor Onyeka, who has been a peace ambassador for three years,but will now serve as the Director General for the Lagos East Senatorial District, emphasized the critical role of the newly appointed ambassadors in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within Lagos State. “The newly appointed peace ambassadors were carefully selected based on their track records of service and excellence to their respective communities. Therefore, it’s expected that they will help to implement the SDGs in their specific fields to much wider communities in Lagos State particularly,” she stated.

Highlighting the importance of peace and economic empowerment, Professor Onyeka expressed her belief in the transformative power of skills and vocational training.
“By lending their voices to promote skills and vocation, I believe a lot more people will be empowered economically,” she added.

As the Director General, Professor Onyeka is committed to championing grassroots efforts to empower people and maintain peace. She assured, “I will champion the implementation of more grassroots efforts in both empowering people and maintaining peace at all times.”

To ensure the effectiveness of the new inductees’ commitment to service, Professor Onyeka outlined several methods for measuring their achievements. These include tracking changes in the well-being of communities, particularly in terms of peaceful coexistence, based on the goals set in their intervention plans. Additionally, surveys will be conducted to assess the impact of their efforts within their communities.
