Tincan Customs Launches B’Odogwu Platform, Records First Digital Declaration

In a major milestone for Nigeria’s maritime and trade sector, the Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully processed its first Single Goods Declaration (SGD) using the newly developed B’Odogwu digital platform.

The landmark declaration, which took place on Monday, marked the formal launch of the platform designed to enhance transparency, efficiency, and speed in cargo operations at one of Nigeria’s busiest seaports.

Describing the development as a “watershed moment,” Comptroller Frank Onyeka, Customs Area Controller of the Command, praised the innovation as a bold step toward digital transformation in line with the Federal Government’s ease of doing business agenda.

“This achievement demonstrates our readiness to embrace technology that streamlines cargo clearance procedures, reduces dwell time, and improves service delivery. The B’Odogwu platform has shown great promise, and we are proud to be pioneers in its implementation,” Comptroller Onyeka said.

He revealed that the Command has now achieved 100% network infrastructure coverage across all terminals and administrative offices, eliminating the issue of network failures and ensuring smooth digital operations.

Designed to integrate with existing customs systems, the B’Odogwu platform provides a user-friendly interface for stakeholders such as declarants, brokers, and terminal operators. It enables real-time cargo tracking, electronic document processing, and compliance management, significantly reducing delays and manual bottlenecks.

The launch was preceded by extensive training sessions and stakeholder engagements organized by the Command in collaboration with the platform’s developers. These sessions brought together shipping lines, licensed customs agents, terminal operators, and customs personnel, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.

Steve Josh Logistics International Limited had the distinction of being the first company to make a declaration on the platform. Industry players have welcomed the innovation, expressing confidence that it will help reduce transaction costs and boost Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.

The Tincan Island Port Command reaffirmed its commitment to embracing digital tools and innovations that support economic growth and streamline international trade operations.
