The Customs Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, has congratulated officers of the command who were recently promoted to various ranks, urging them to remain committed to national service, uphold integrity, and show gratitude for their achievements.
Speaking during the decoration ceremony held at the command on Wednesday, Onyeka said the promotions were a clear indication that the hard work and contributions of the officers were recognized by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) and the Customs hierarchy.
“For as long as you are promoted, it means the little that you’ve done is appreciated and acknowledged. To whom much is given, much is expected. We must not drop the ball,” he stated.
Onyeka highlighted the command’s recent revenue performance, disclosing that Tin Can Customs generated an unprecedented ₦159 billion in August 2025, describing it as a collective achievement of officers and stakeholders.
“A tree cannot make a forest. I only give directives, but if they are not followed, nothing will happen. Thankfully, my directives are being carried out, and that is why we have this success story,” he said.
He praised the Comptroller-General of Customs, whom he credited with ensuring that a large percentage of officers who sat for promotion examinations were elevated. “Virtually everybody that sat for this exam got promoted. With 87 percent success, that is a pass mark anywhere in the world,” Onyeka noted.

The Controller further urged officers to remain focused on the philosophy of “Nigeria First,” warning against disloyalty and betrayal. “Out of every trade, there is a Judas. But Judas will not thrive here. Those of us keyed into the concept of Nigeria First must keep the flag flying,” he charged.
Onyeka also used the occasion to advise officers to cultivate gratitude, contentment, and faith. He stressed that happiness, health, and family were more important than wealth or position.
“Wherever you find yourself, give glory to God. Count your blessings one by one. The more you appreciate God, the more He recognizes you. At the end of the day, the basic thing is to sleep well, have peace, and see your children doing well,” he told the gathering.

A total of 187 officers were promoted,in the command,a testament to the good cordial working relationship between the Comptroller and his officers.Amomg those promoted includes the command’ s image maker, Oscar Ivara ,who was promoted and decorated with the rank of Chief Superintendent of Customs CSC.
The ceremony, attended by senior officers, stakeholders, and members of the media, ended with congratulations to the newly decorated officers and a call to sustain the command’s growing record of achievements.
