MWUN Retracts Statement On Warri Port Accident Record, Issues Apology To NPA

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has formally withdrawn an earlier statement which alleged that Warri Port recorded the highest number of accidents across the nation’s seaports.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the union clarified that the information was released in error and urged members of the public to disregard the claim.
“The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) wish to retract its earlier statement published in some online media, Tuesday September 23, 2025, that the Warri Port had recorded the highest incident of accidents across the nation’s seaports. It was an error of information; therefore, it should be disregarded by members of the general public,” the statement read.
The Union also tendered an apology to the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Warri, Delta State, for any embarrassment the misinformation may have caused.
Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, MWUN’s Head of Media, signed the retraction on behalf of the union.
