MWUN Condoles With Veteran Maritime Journalist Asu Beks Over Wife’s Death

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has commiserated with veteran maritime journalist and publisher, Chief Asu Beks, following the death of his wife, Mrs. Helen Asu Beks, who passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

In a condolence message signed by the Union’s Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, the MWUN President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, described Mrs. Beks’ death as a painful loss not only to her family, but to the entire maritime community.

Comrade Bunu noted that Chief Asu Beks, a respected maritime media practitioner and former staff of the defunct Concord Group of Newspapers, has been a longstanding ally of the Union and a consistent contributor to the growth of the maritime industry through his journalism.

He described the demise of Mrs. Beks as “a big blow” to the renowned media figure and urged him to take solace in the belief that “there is life after life” and that all humans will reunite at the resurrection. Bunu stressed that earthly life is transient, but the legacy of good deeds remains.

The MWUN leader further encouraged Chief Beks to stay strong for the children his late wife left behind, assuring him that the Union stands firmly with him during this difficult period. He pledged the Union’s moral, physical and emotional support to the bereaved family.

Comrade Bunu and the MWUN executives offered prayers for divine comfort for Chief Beks and his children, asking God to grant them strength and favour as they navigate their grief. They also prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late Mrs. Helen Asu Beks.
