Born into the Ooni Royal family in Ile Ife , Osun State,South West Nigeria, Ambassador Dr.Abayomi Johnson Odeniran,son of Ooni of Ife,has all the trappings of Royalty ,yet remains humble , unassuming and personable.
A development activist that propagates the economic empowerment of people, with a strong drive to succeed in facilitating projects that could better the lives of people, particularly the poorest of the poor, Amb. Abayomi Johnson Odeniran’s philosophy is that of a noble cause-of creating opportunities for the rural poor, and creating an enabling environment for the poor to optimize such opportunities. Meeting the basic needs of people, enhancing service delivery compacts, skills development, equity participation, are at the center of his existence.
Dr.Abayomi Johnson is a well rounded personality,haven traversed the globe in the quest to uplift not only himself but humanity.An entrepreneur of repute and one given to learning and search for knowledge.
His experience is enhanced by his Diploma in Business Administration major and several certificates including a certificate in Skills Empowerment with Private Employment Agency with the Department of Labour South Africa. As an entrepreneur,who believes so much in hard work ,Dr Abayomi Johnson is on the chair of so many businesses.He co-founded the NHLANHLA JAY CRIME PREVENTION UNIT, JAY-JAY RECRUITMENT TRAINING ACADEMY, NIGERIA AND SOUTH
AFRICA CULTURAL FOUNDATION and LEISURE TRAVEL AND TOURISM, Affluent Resources which are involved in the promotion, facilitation and development of key strategic sectors and businesses in South Africa and Africa as a whole.
Amb. Abayomi Johnson Odeniran has been involved in many developmental and poverty alleviation projects and programmes within the African landscape, facilitating creation of Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMME) and tourism development across African Countries.
Dr Abayomi also played a leading role in the creation of the Africa Connect and celebration of Africa crown across the Africa continent.
He was one of the recipients of the Honorary Doctor of Excellence award by the Global Multiconcept Business School , penultimate Friday,when the school had its annual induction/ investiture ceremony,with the theme:
“DIGITAL CONFERENCE & HONORS AWARD”
at the School’s auditorium ,in Lagos.
Premium News Daily spoke to this amiable and soft spoken gentleman.A prince from the Royal family of Ooni,Dr.Abayomi,leads a simple and unassuming life.
Despite being born with golden spoon ,Dr Abayomi,an entrepreneur ,an activist,and a politician,believes in being self- made,and that philosophy has propelled him to where he is today. He spoke on some crucial issues in the country and advanced measures Government could take to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.
What is his message to the Nigerian youths? What is his reaction to the present state of things in the country,and his opinion about the Tinubu administration.Find out in this brief interview.Excerpts:
Can we meet you sir?
My name is honourable Prince Dr. Ambassador Abayomi Johnson Odeniran
What does this award mean to you ,and how did you feel when you realized you are shortlisted for the Excellence Award?
I feel honoured and excited. It means a lot to me and my generation. Because it’s good when you pass through stages in life, and people in the society feel your impact, and to God be the glory, we are honoured today. Am so grateful and honoured to receive this prestigious award.
What specific contribution would you say is instrumental to your being honoured today?
When we talk of achievement, I think they are a lot. Because I came from a background whereby, I can say we are less privileged. But to God be the glory, God has been performing wonders in my family, through me and for my family name to be known and recognized across the globe. I am an ambassador also, under international role as an advocate,and in the United Nation’s Economic and Social Council
ECOSOC. I was decorated with former Chief of Staff to General Sanni Abacha, Major Al Mustapha. We were decorated the same day. So, for me to mingle with these caliber of people, like my fathers and uncles here, to me, it’s a great opportunity it is not by power, it’s not by might , It’s because of God’s Mercy, upon me and upon my life.
What advice would you give to those who aspire to be in your position and who probably wants to be like you?
Thank you for that question. My advice basically goes to the youths, especially my generation, and the younger ones .They should desist from wrong association and wrong doings, because our youths have gone astray. Many of us are complaining and saying all kinds of things against the government. Government starts from me and you. There is a saying that Rome was not built in a day. As we continue to try and keep pushing, we will definitely get there, and I thank God we have a listening President, who listens to people’s voices, and is ready to make amendments, but for some of our youths,they should not try to fast- track whatever is happening now.It will be impossible, and that is why such action can lead them to something that is not palatable. So I appeal to the youths, to please let us come together and support whosoever that is in the helm of affairs of this nation. As young as I am, I have contested for the House of Reps. Twice, I contested in 2019, under African Action Congress (AAC), and I contested in 2023 as well. For me not winning now does not mean it ends there. We will keep pushing. But sitting there joining people that act like hooligans, disturbing the peace of the society is not ideal. Some people even pay some of these hooligans to go and protest against the government, the result is that many have lost their lives, many women have become widows, and many men have also become widowers. Some have lost their children in the process. We should just sit down and think what we can do for ourselves, and what we can also contribute to the society. My mother used to say “when hunger wires you, you will discover your talent”. And there is also a saying that “never say die, until the bones are rotten”. This simply means that the dead body you are taking to the mortuary, if God wants to make miracle,he could raise his hands, that I am still alive. Most of these protests that we are seeing today are being politically motivated. But we don’t want that to continue to be happening. We want to sit together and fashion out how we can help the government. We will accuse the government of not doing drainage, but when it rains, we dump our refuse in the drainage to block it. And tomorrow we will say government is bad. We should stop hurting ourselves. And I will also urge the government to also look at the masses and listen to their cry, and make things easy for everyone. If the government of Nigeria wanted to bless every Nigerian citizen with N5m each, it’s a small thing.They can do it!
