Comrade Adeyanju Celebrates Women on International Women’s Day 2025

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has extended heartfelt commendations to women in Nigeria and across the globe.
Recognizing their remarkable achievements, Dr. Adeyanju praised women for their resilience and contributions to various fields, particularly in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
As Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Vice President Global of the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), Dr. Adeyanju highlighted the strides made by Nigerian women in breaking barriers and excelling in diverse areas of human endeavor. He noted their growing influence in the maritime sector, where women now play pivotal roles in administration and operations. From seafarers managing vessels and oil tankers to crane operators at port terminals, Nigerian women are proving their mettle and competing effectively alongside their male counterparts.
Under Dr. Adeyanju’s leadership, the MWUN has championed gender equality, fostering an inclusive environment where women are empowered to thrive in all aspects of maritime operations. This progress has been mirrored globally, with the ITF encouraging women’s active participation across air, land, rail, and water transport sectors. Organizations like Women in Shipping (WIS) and the ITF Women’s Wing have further bolstered opportunities for women in leadership and operational roles.
Dr. Adeyanju lauded the achievements of women in politics, business, education, and beyond, urging them to continue building on their legacies. “Women have excelled in every sphere of life, and their contributions are invaluable,” he stated. “As we celebrate IWD 2025, I encourage women to remain steadfast in their pursuits, inspiring future generations to follow in their footsteps.”
