The leadership of the Courier Staff Association of Nigeria (CALSSAN), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) at the Union’s national secretariat in Olodi-Apapa, Lagos.

The CALSSAN delegation, led by Deputy President Comrade Emeka Cyril Ekeh, included Comrade Akor Jonah, State Vice Chairman, and Comrade Inih Ekwere, State Secretary. They were warmly received by the MWUN President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, alongside his national executive members.

Speaking during the visit, the CALSSAN leadership congratulated Comrade Bunu on his recent electoral victory as President-General of MWUN. The delegation noted that the visit was aimed at fostering solidarity and building a strong synergy between the two trade unions, emphasizing that both unions share common values and challenges within Nigeria’s labour sector.

Responding, Comrade Bunu assured the visiting executives of MWUN’s full cooperation and partnership, stressing that solidarity and comradeship remain vital tools for advancing the interests of workers. He reaffirmed his administration’s open-door policy, pledging continuous collaboration for the mutual benefit of both unions and the welfare of their members.

“A healthy workforce is the foundation of a healthy organization anywhere in the world, and Nigeria is no exception,” the MWUN leader stated, underscoring his commitment to prioritizing workers’ welfare throughout his tenure.

Comrade Bunu expressed gratitude to the CALSSAN delegation for their show of solidarity and support, adding that such partnerships will go a long way in strengthening labour unity across sectors.
