Al-Tinez Pharmaceuticals Ltd, in collaboration with India’s Centaur Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd, has officially launched Woxheal, a revolutionary drug for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and chronic wounds, at a grand event held recently , at the Providence Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
A groundbreaking treatment for diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), Woxheal,has been officially unveiled in Nigeria.
Dr. Mayuresh Kiran, Clinical Pharmacologist from India ,and representative of Centaur Pharmaceuticals ,the company behind the drug,and lead researcher, introduced Woxheal, a revolutionary treatment for diabetic foot ulcers, DFU, during its official launch at Providence Hotel, Ikeja.
Dr. Mayuresh Kiran, a clinical pharmacologist from India and representative of Centaur Pharmaceuticals, the company behind the drug,in his presentation, highlighted the limitations of current treatments, noting that existing products—such as growth factors, iodine solutions, silver gels, antibiotics, and sodium alginate—typically address only one or two of the three essential conditions needed for successful healing: maintaining a moist wound environment, providing antimicrobial action, and promoting fibroblast proliferation for tissue repair.
“No single product currently available meets all three prerequisites for effective healing. That is where Woxheal makes a difference,” he said.
Woxheal, whose generic name is diperoxochloric acid (TPOCL), is a new chemical entity co-developed by Centaur Pharmaceuticals (India) and Psychotools (Germany). According to Dr. Mayuresh, the drug is unique because it integrates all three healing prerequisites into one solution.
The drug has undergone extensive research, including in vitro studies in Germany, preclinical animal studies in Germany and India, and Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials in both India and Europe. Phase 3 trials are still ongoing in Europe.
Unlike many growth factor products that require refrigeration, Woxheal is a clear, odorless solution that can be stored at room temperature, with stability confirmed at temperatures up to 40°C—an advantage for distribution in tropical climates like Nigeria.
Dr. Mayuresh explained that the product, invented in 2003-2004, is already approved for the treatment of diabetic neuropathic ulcers of the skin and subcutaneous tissue.
The launch of Woxheal is expected to offer fresh hope to patients suffering from diabetic foot ulcers, a condition that remains a leading cause of amputation and prolonged hospital admissions worldwide.
During the question and answer session of the event,concerns were raised by Doctors and medical experts who graced the occasion about efficacy and effectiveness of the product.
While some Doctors who have used the product to treat their patients at various times and hospitals across the country gave impressive experience of the efficacy of the product,there were however concerns that caution should be exercised about these claims ,moreso when the product is only being used in Africa and is yet to be approved in Europe and other Western countries.Among the Doctors and surgeons who gave al testimonies of their experience while using Woxheal to treat patients with severe DFU include Dr Iduwe G.l.O, plastic reconstruction surgeon.To him , “Woxheal is a magical therapy ”
In an exclusive interview , Dr. Kiran described Woxheal as the first DFU therapy to combine three essential healing mechanisms—maintaining a moist wound environment, delivering antibacterial action, and stimulating fibroblast proliferation—making it distinct from existing treatments that typically offer only one of these effects.
Originally invented in Germany, Woxheal underwent full-scale research and development in India, including in-vitro, preclinical, and human clinical trials. It has already been approved and used successfully across multiple African countries, though Phase 3 trials are still ongoing in Europe.
“In India alone, we’ve treated over 10,000 difficult cases, saving countless patients from amputation,” Dr. Kiran said, noting the emotional impact of seeing patients recover.
Priced at ₦50,000–₦60,000, the drug is positioned as a cost-effective alternative to the physical, emotional, and financial toll of amputation.
Dr. Kiran praised the Nigerian unveiling as “commendable” and highlighted Centaur’s long-standing partnership with local distributor Altena, dating back over a decade.
“With Woxheal, we believe we are giving hope and a better quality of life to diabetic patients in Nigeria,” he said.
Earlier in his welcome address,
Pharm. (Barr.) Stephen Okoronkwo, Managing Director of Al-Tinez Pharmaceuticals, described the unveiling as “an epoch-making event” that goes beyond a product launch to mark “a celebration of scientific advancement, strategic collaboration, and a collective vision for improved healthcare delivery in Nigeria.”
He noted that Woxheal is a clinically proven innovation designed to address one of the most pressing challenges in patient care, especially for people living with diabetes.

The event drew top healthcare stakeholders, including the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, medical professors, consultants, directors, hospital administrators, and leaders of professional bodies.
The Al-Tinez boss commended the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), professional associations, and the media for their support, adding that their advocacy and coverage would ensure Woxheal reaches patients who need it most.
