Secretary-General, Promotes Two Others

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has confirmed Comrade Oniha Erazua as its substantive Secretary-General after serving in acting capacity for six months. The announcement was made on Friday, August 15, 2025, during a joint session of the Union’s National Administrative Committee (NAC) and Central Working Committee (CWC), under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi.
Comrade Oniha, an Edo State-born unionist and University of Ibadan graduate, rose through the ranks from Assistant Secretary-General to Deputy Secretary-General, where he oversaw Training & Research, Education, and Media. He succeeds Comrade Felix Akingboye, who retired earlier this year.
Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna,Head of Media,MWUN who signed the press statement,noted that also confirmed were Comrade Olangwe Fred Dagogo, promoted to General Secretary of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch after serving as Organising Secretary, and Comrade Joseph Ekwere, appointed General Secretary of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Branch. Dagogo is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Port Harcourt, while Ekwere, a University of Lagos graduate, previously served as Computer Secretary in the Seamen & Water Transport Branch.
The three new General Secretaries have been formally congratulated by the Union leadership.
