MWUN President-General Pays Courtesy Visit To Western Port Police Command, Seeks Stronger Collaboration

In a renewed bid to strengthen ties and deepen inter-agency cooperation, the President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, on Tuesday led his national executive team on a courtesy visit to the Western Port Authority Police Command in Apapa, Lagos.

Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna,Head ,Media of the Union,in a press statement,noted that the delegation was received by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, CP Olanrewaju Olanrewaju Ishola, psc(+), mnips, alongside senior officers and men of the force.

According to Comrade Abi, the visit was aimed at fostering a seamless working relationship between the Police Command and the Maritime Workers Union, as well as reaffirming the Union’s commitment to collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other critical stakeholders to ensure security and operational safety at the nation’s seaports.

Describing the Port Police as “strategically positioned and proactive,” the Delta-born maritime expert and seasoned sailor commended the Command for its relentless efforts in securing port environments, thereby ensuring relative peace across operational zones.

“The Maritime Workers Union is always open and ready for collaboration with the Police Command. We believe that strong synergy between the Union and security agencies is crucial for the smooth and uninterrupted functioning of port operations,” Abi said during the visit.

In his response, CP Ishola expressed appreciation for the Union’s consistent cooperation and administrative discipline, acknowledging MWUN’s role in promoting peace and orderliness within the maritime sector.

“The level of peace and cooperation we currently enjoy at the ports would not have been possible without the support of the Maritime Workers Union and other key stakeholders. We deeply value this relationship,” CP Ishola noted.

The visit culminated in a robust interactive session between both parties, where key issues affecting maritime operations were deliberated. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to consolidating the existing partnership for a safer, more efficient, and productive maritime sector.
