The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has commended the exceptional leadership of Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka, Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), describing him as a benchmark in customs administration and trade facilitation.

The accolade came during a familiarization visit by the NAGAFF CARGO WATCH Team to the Tin Can Island Command on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Representing NAGAFF’s National President, High Chief Tochukwu Emmanuel Ezisi, was the association’s Secretary-General, Fwdr. Godfrey Nwosu, who lauded Comptroller Onyeka for his unwavering dedication to the core mandates of the Service—trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national security.

According to Nwosu, “Comptroller Onyeka’s selfless commitment, particularly his willingness to work late into the night to resolve trade-related concerns, is nothing short of extraordinary. He is not compelled to do so, but rather chooses to go the extra mile to ensure stakeholders’ issues are addressed promptly.”

He also highlighted the Controller’s ongoing support for NAGAFF Cargo Watch Radio, the association’s media outlet, through which vital port-related information is disseminated. “Your sponsorship of our weekly program has been instrumental in strengthening our engagement with port stakeholders,” Nwosu noted.

Adding his voice, the Chairman of NAGAFF’s Fact-Finding Committee, Dr. Arthur Igwilo, praised the synergy between NAGAFF and the Nigeria Customs Service, noting that both institutions share common goals of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national security. Dr. Igwilo assured that NAGAFF Cargo Watch will continue to spotlight activities at the Tin Can Island Command.

“We’ve witnessed a positive turnaround in this Command since your assumption of office,” Igwilo said while acknowledging Comptroller Onyeka’s impact.

In a similar vein, the Producer and Presenter of NAGAFF Cargo Watch on Radio and YouTube, Ruth Sunday, commended the Controller for his exemplary leadership style and pledged continued collaboration to ensure the success of his administration.

In response, Comptroller Onyeka expressed appreciation for the visit and acknowledged his long-standing relationship with NAGAFF, particularly with its Founder, Chief Boniface Aniebonam.

“When I say NAGAFF is in my DNA, it is not an exaggeration. I have enjoyed a relationship with the founder for over 21 years, and his constructive feedback has helped shape my career,” Onyeka stated.

He also lauded NAGAFF’s approach to compliance and transparency, noting that while they may sometimes fall short in valuation, their commitment to proper declaration and openness in container examination stands them out among freight forwarders.

The visit was graced by top officers of the Command, including DC E.E. Esiet (Admin), DC J.A. Anani (Evaluation), and Acting DC I.S. Ofoegbu (Revenue), who joined the Controller in receiving the NAGAFF team.

The interaction ended on a positive note, with renewed commitment to collaboration between the Customs Service and the freight forwarding community for more effective port operations.
