Nigeria Customs Service Investigates Alleged Maltreatment By Officers In Viral Video

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Area Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing officers allegedly maltreating members of the public. The incident, which has sparked widespread condemnation, is being taken seriously by the Command.
In a press statement released on December 2, 2024, the Command expressed deep empathy for the affected individuals and strongly condemned the unethical conduct displayed by the officers. The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Kayode Kolade, emphasized that the actions of these officers are contrary to the values and operational standards of the NCS.
Comptroller Kolade has ordered the immediate withdrawal and interrogation of the officers involved to ensure decisive disciplinary measures are taken against those found culpable. He assured the public that the findings of the investigative panel will be made public once the investigation is concluded.
The CAC also called on stakeholders and the public using the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor to continue their lawful activities, assuring them that the Command is committed to maintaining a safe and conducive environment for legitimate trade to thrive.
