New Nigeria People’s Party Files Lawsuit To Stop Kwankwaso-Led Group From Holding Convention

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), led by Dr. Temitope Aluko, has taken legal action to halt the proposed congress and convention scheduled for April 2nd to 6th, 2024. The party’s Board of Trustees filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to prevent the gathering from taking place

The dispute centers around Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his expelled members, who have been persistently pushing forward with their activities despite legal constraints. The court has explicitly instructed all parties to maintain silence and refrain from any actions related to the convention until the matter is resolved

In a significant twist, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is actively involved in the legal proceedings. The NNPP contends that Kwankwaso’s “Kwankwasiyya Movement” is not a political party and should not operate under the guise of the New Nigeria Peoples Party. The court’s intervention aims to prevent the construction of a political castle on unstable ground

While the legal battle unfolds, the NNPP urges its members not to be swayed by the unruly behavior of those who should serve as role models. The future of Nigeria’s political landscape hangs in the balance, and the court’s decision will undoubtedly shape the credibility of the electoral process and the conduct of political actors

As the nation watches, the shifting sands of legal proceedings will determine whether Kwankwaso’s movement can withstand the storm or crumble under the weight of the law
The statement further added,”
“To showcase the audience that the alleged ongoing state DELEGATE election, state Congress and upcoming convention of the duo of senator kwankwaso and Buba Galadima, let them publish the approval from INEC authorising them to conduct delegate election, state Congress and convention

” What people and members of the NNPP, should know is that Nigeria constitution allows peaceful assembly among Nigerians. We believe that senator kwankwaso and Buba Galadima are simply exercising their rights of peaceful assembly and not necessarily a convention of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

” This is because they are not members of the New Nigeria Peoples party. They have since been expelled constitutionally from the party including the members of the National Working Committee etc.

“We will want to believe that the Nigerian people and in particular the members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party can understand the desperation on the part of senator kwankwaso, Buba Galadima and all the elected members of the state government and federal who may be afraid of losing the platform of the NNPP, ahead of 2027 general election .

“One do not need to be told the inherent consequences. Definitely it shall be a situation wherein they have to start all over from the back bench of APC, PDP and Labour Party to find political space ,if there will be any.

“What we must tell all Nigerians and members of the NNPP is that the national working committee of the NNPP,led by Dr Agbo major Gilbert is in touch with INEC ,and pursuing our cases in court through due process with our team of lawyers. We believe that justice shall not only be served but be seen to have been served to the children of God. All members of the New Nigerian Peoples Party and intending members are children of God.

“And so all members of the NNPP and intending members are being encouraged to go about peacefully with our party activities and at the appropriate time soon, we shall undertake delegate election, state congress and convention to elect our executive.

“The seemingly desperation of senator kwankwaso and Buba Galadima ahead of 2027 presidential nomination ticket is laughable, and never again under the canopy of the NNPP,should senator kwankwaso be the leader of NNPP . We thank Gov Ganduje who described senator kwankwaso as” a political trader” for his courage to let us know. We guess that most nigerians must have seen by themselves the alleged disloyalty and betrayal between you and senator kwankwaso.

“Those who know the history of National movement ( TNM) and its disbandment, are thankful to God that they left on time. The likes of senator Hunkuyi suleiman, Prof Alikali Ahmed, Prof Samuel Angwe, AVM IHEMEJE etc who are left behind in TNM may be full of regrets today . We may wish to know that some of them are struggling to be relevant in APC and others are “boyi- boyi” in NNPP under the dictates of senator kwankwaso and Buba Galadima”.the statement affirmed

Mr Sunday Oginni, Secretary General ,who issued the press statement from the NNPP Headquarters in Abuja, assured that “IN ALL, THERE IS HOPE FOR NEW NIGERIA PEOPLES PARtY”.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has indeed taken legal action to halt the convention, and the involvement of INEC adds an intriguing dimension to the dispute. The court’s ruling will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s political landscape.
