Ports & Cargo Engages Micura Services For Stevedoring Operations At Tin Can Port

Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited (PCHS), a subsidiary of SIFAX Group, has signed a stevedoring contract with Micura Services Limited as part of a strategic restructuring aimed at enhancing efficiency and customer satisfaction at its terminal in Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.
The agreement, which officially commenced on August 1, 2025, marks a significant shift in PCHS’s operational focus, allowing the company to concentrate on its core mandate of port management while outsourcing loading and unloading operations to the experienced stevedoring firm.
John Jenkins, Managing Director of PCHS, said the partnership with Micura is a crucial step in positioning the company as Nigeria’s premier port terminal. “Ports and Cargo Handling Services Limited has continued to set standards in port operations in Nigeria,” he said. “We are poised to transition into a new growth phase… and this requires a professional stevedore company that has cognate experience, a record of excellence, and local knowledge of the industry.”
Micura Services, a well-established player in the maritime services sector, has promised to bring its hallmark of excellence, competence, and customized cargo-handling solutions to the partnership.
Dr. Michael Ubogu, CEO of Micura Services Limited, described the contract as a milestone in the company’s growth. “We are grateful for the opportunity… to showcase professional stevedore services built on competence and experience,” he said. “We promise to deliver tailor-made solutions that fit the requirements of our new partner.”
The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has also endorsed the development. Representing the union’s President General Comrade Francis Bunu Abi at the contract launch, Vice President General Ibrahim Ohize Tajudeen praised PCHS for its transparent handling of dock workers’ issues during the transition.
The collaboration is expected to improve port turnaround time, cargo integrity, and overall operational output at the Tin Can terminal.
