Ogun I Customs Intercepts Over 7,200 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa,Tramadol Tablets

In a significant stride against smuggling and illicit drug trafficking, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, has seized 7,217.7 kilograms of cannabis sativa and 362 packs of 225 mg Tramaking tablets. These seizures, valued at ₦117,587,405.00, highlight the Command’s dedication to national health and security.
Addressing the media at the Customs House in Abeokuta on November 22, 2024, Comptroller James Ojo, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), detailed the operations leading to these interceptions. The seizures, comprising 403 sacks and 6,504 parcels of cannabis sativa, were the result of intelligence-led operations across Ogun State. Between October 13 and November 12, 2024, the Command intercepted 1,373 parcels of cannabis sativa, weighing 1,337 kg, and 362 packs of Tramaking tablets in areas such as Abeokuta, Agbawo/Igankoto in Yewa North, and Imeko Afon.
Comptroller Ojo emphasized the alarming rise in drug smuggling activities but assured the public of the Command’s resilience. “These seizures disrupt the supply chain of dangerous substances and serve as a warning to traffickers. Our operatives are committed to ensuring no illicit items cross our borders,” he stated.
The success of these operations was attributed to the collaboration between the Command’s intelligence units, sister security agencies, and local informants. The seized items were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and legal action, reflecting the NCS’s commitment to transparency and the rule of law.
Comptroller Ojo praised the leadership of Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for creating an enabling environment that bolstered the Command’s efficiency. He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to safeguarding Nigerians’ safety, security, and health, and called for public support in providing credible information to combat smuggling and criminal activities.
CSC Hameed Oloyede, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, made this known in a press statement on Friday.
