NPA Retirees Hail MD Danshoho for Digitising Pension Process, Improving Staff Welfare

Retirees of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) have commended the Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Danshoho, for transforming the retirement benefits process through the digitalisation of payment procedures, describing it as a groundbreaking reform in public sector pension administration.
In a statement by Chief Sir Patrick Ogbo (Ichie Ezeoba), a senior citizen and representative of the NPA retirees, the former workers praised Dr. Danshoho’s leadership for prioritising staff welfare and redefining the retirement experience for employees of the organisation.
According to Chief Ogbo, the NPA under Danshoho’s watch has ensured that retirement benefits are processed and ready before staff officially exit service—an achievement he attributed to the MD’s decision to overhaul critical departments and appoint competent and humane officers to lead them.
Highlighting the appointment of Mrs. Ballah, formerly of the Corporate Affairs Division, as General Manager of the Superannuation Division, Ogbo noted that her strong human relations skills and understanding of psychological challenges faced by retiring staff were instrumental to the ongoing success of the reforms.
“Today, all the encumbrances in processing workers’ benefits at the point of retirement have been put to rest,” Ogbo stated. “The MD’s approval for computerisation and digitalisation of the division has paid off. Now, retirees can confidently plan for their exit with the assurance that their benefits are ready.”
Chief Ogbo further praised the introduction of a pre-retirement training programme facilitated by the NPA Training Department, calling it a “sustainable innovation” that equips staff for life after service. He added that the timely payment of retirement packages has enabled many retirees to venture into businesses and crafts, promoting active and healthy lifestyles.
He described retirement as a “glorious phase” when workers who served meritoriously with dignity and within the rules of engagement can look forward to rest, reflection, and new beginnings, without fear of abandonment or financial uncertainty.
Expressing optimism about the future, Chief Ogbo urged the NPA to consider engaging experienced retirees on advisory terms to guide the younger generation of staff. He also appealed for the sustenance of the high standards set under Danshoho’s leadership.
“NPA retirees today stand as a shining example among federal government pensioners. The credit goes to Dr. Danshoho for his renewed vision and his commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired staff,” he concluded.
