NLC Two- Day Warning Strike : MWUN Mobilizes Members,Set To Shutdown Ports ,Jetties,Others

In Compliance to the directive by the Nigerian Labour Congress( NLC), to all its affiliates to embark on a two- day warning strike following the refusal of the Federal Government to meet organized labour’s demands on issues arising from the recent fuel hike,which has made life difficult for Nigerians,the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria,under the leadership of Dr Prince Adewale Adeyanju,fnli,has called on its members nation. wide to embark on a two – day warning strike as directed by the NLC.

This directive was contained in a press statement on Monday,signed by the media head of the Union,comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna. The statement read,”The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, fnli, HFCPSP, is in notice of a communique of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) directing all its affiliates to embark on a TWO-DAY nation wide strike of a total shutdown scheduled for Tuesday, 5th September and Wednesday 6th September, 2023.

“This decision is due to the Federal Government’s refusal to engage and reach agreement with the Organised Labour on critical issues of the consequences of the unfortunate hike in the price of petrol, which has unleashed massive suffering on Nigerian Workers and the generality of the Nigerian citizenry.

“The Maritime Workers Union as an affiliate of the NLC, are obliged to comply with the directive and has consequently instructed all our members in all ports, Jetties, terminals, and oil & gas platforms nation wide to partake on the TWO-WAY total shut down warning strike as directed by the NLC”.
