Nigerian Maritime Journalists Set To Celebrate Customs Comptroller-General, February 13

The eagerly awaited award dinner organized by Nigerian maritime journalists to celebrate the outstanding performance of Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, is set for Thursday, February 13, 2025.

This landmark event, the first in Nigeria’s Maritime Industry, will take place at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos State, starting at 6pm.

Nigerian Maritime Journalists, representing various associations within the maritime sector, have come together to honor CGC Adeniyi as the “ICONIC MARITIME PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR 2024.”
Initially scheduled for January 16th, the event was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

The decision to honor the CGC was a unanimous one, involving maritime journalists from print, electronic, and online media, led by their respective associations. These associations include:

– Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN)
– League of Maritime Editors (LOME)
– Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON)
– Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN)
– Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN)
– Online Maritime Media Association of Nigeria (OMMAN)
– Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP)

Additionally, journalists who are not part of any association also supported the initiative. They recognize CG Adeniyi’s exemplary performance since assuming office as Customs CGC.

CG Adeniyi’s achievements include remarkable revenue collection, effective anti-smuggling operations, enhanced trade facilitation, improved national security, robust staff welfare, fruitful inter-agency collaborations, infrastructural upgrades, advancements in Information and Communication Technology, and notable Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

The organizers appreciate CG Adeniyi’s unwavering support for the media, particularly the maritime media, and aim to set an example for other government agencies and their appointees. This award underscores the diligent and vigilant nature of Nigeria’s maritime journalists.

The award ceremony is expected to attract special guests from sister agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, Customs brokers, and other maritime stakeholders.
