Nigeria Customs Service Investigates Viral Videos Involving Officer And Clearing Agents

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched an investigation into two viral videos circulating on social media, involving an officer and clearing agents at the Car Park C Terminal under the Tincan Island Port Area Command. The first video depicts the officer facing embarrassment and hostility, while the second shows the same officer being warmly received by the agents.

In a press statement released today, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the NCS takes these incidents very seriously. The Customs Police Unit has been tasked with reviewing the videos, gathering statements from the involved officer, and engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.

The NCS, under the leadership of Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, as outlined in the NCS Act 2023 Section 30. The statement highlighted that any individual found in contravention of NCS regulations, whether clearing agents, officers, or other parties, will be held accountable and appropriate measures will be taken to serve as a deterrent.

CGC Adeniyi assured the public, stakeholders, and the business community that appropriate actions will be taken based on the investigation’s findings. He urged all parties operating within the port community to conduct their activities responsibly and uphold the principles of respect and professionalism.

The NCS remains dedicated to creating a safe and conducive environment for legitimate trade and commerce across all its formations.
