MWUN Condemns Abduction Of NLC President Joe Ajaero

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, has strongly condemned the abduction of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, by security agents at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Ajaero was on his way to attend a global workers’ congress organized by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of the United Kingdom.
In a press release signed by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media for MWUN, the union expressed outrage over the incident, describing it as a blatant violation of Ajaero’s fundamental human rights. The union emphasized that Ajaero is not a fugitive and his arrest without a warrant is entirely unjustifiable.
The MWUN highlighted that Ajaero, a Nigerian citizen, has been held incommunicado since Monday morning, with no information on his whereabouts. The union views this act as a deliberate attempt to humiliate and intimidate the NLC President.
MWUN has called for the immediate and unconditional release of Ajaero, warning that failure to do so will compel the union to follow any directives issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress in response to this incident.
The union’s leadership reiterated its commitment to defending the rights of workers and ensuring that such acts of intimidation do not go unchallenged. The MWUN’s stance reflects a broader concern for the protection of human rights and the rule of law in Nigeria.
