LAGOS, Nigeria – June 6, 2025 – The President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has extended warm Eid-Kabir greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and around the globe, calling for peace, unity, and religious tolerance during and beyond the festive period.
In a message released through the union’s Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Bunu congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-Kabir, a globally recognized Islamic festival that commemorates the devotion and unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim as recorded in the Holy Quran.
Bunu urged Muslims to emulate the virtues of Prophet Ibrahim, particularly his faith, sacrifice, and obedience to divine instructions. He further encouraged believers to integrate these values into their everyday lives to positively impact society and reflect the core teachings of Islam as propagated by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
“Islam has always been a religion of peace and tolerance,” Bunu said. “Muslims should use this sacred season to show love, forgiveness, charity, and peaceful coexistence among all humanity, regardless of religion, race, or background.”
The Delta State-born labour leader and seasoned maritime expert emphasized the need for national unity, stressing that all human beings originate from one divine source — the Almighty Allah — and must therefore strive to be one another’s keeper.
“Islam is a symbol of peace. I appeal to all Muslims to be tolerant, peaceful, and God-fearing. Let us promote harmony and mutual respect in our communities,” he added.
Bunu concluded by offering prayers for continued peace and love to reign across nations, stating that the lessons of Eid-Kabir should inspire enduring compassion and unity long after the festivities end.
The MWUN President-General remains a staunch advocate of interfaith harmony and has consistently celebrated with Muslim faithful as part of his commitment to national solidarity and religious inclusivity.
