Ebonyi State Governor Urged To Intervene In Ongoing Communal Clashes

In a heartfelt appeal addressed to the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the President of The Evangelisers Team Ministry International (TETMI), Rev. Dr. David Umune C., has called for urgent government intervention in the escalating communal clashes affecting several communities across the state.
In a formal letter sent to the Government House in Abakaliki, Rev. Umune expressed grave concern over the resurgence of violence stemming from longstanding ethnic and land disputes. He warned that the current situation threatens to spiral out of control if not swiftly addressed.
Citing the 2011 Ezza-Ezilo conflict, which claimed at least 50 lives, the cleric reminded the governor of the tragic consequences of unresolved communal tensions. He noted that the recent wave of violence has already led to loss of lives, displacement of families, and widespread fear among residents.
Rev. Umune, whose organization has been involved in missionary and development work in Ebonyi State, outlined a comprehensive seven-point proposal aimed at restoring peace and stability. The recommendations include the establishment of a State-Level Peace and Reconciliation Committee, public condemnation of the violence, high-level peacebuilding dialogues, strengthened security presence, implementation of previous resolutions, awareness campaigns promoting peaceful coexistence, and humanitarian support for victims.
“The people of Ebonyi State look to your leadership to guide her through this challenging period,” Rev. Umune wrote. “By taking decisive and inclusive actions, we can pave the way for lasting peace and unity in our state.”
The appeal adds to growing calls from civil society and religious groups urging the state government to act swiftly in quelling the violence and fostering long-term reconciliation.
However,there has been no official response yet from the Governor’s office as of press time.
As part of its humanitarian service to humanity,TETMI recently donated food items and other necessities to the affected three rural communities in the state.
