Customs Intercepts Cannabis Indica Worth N256.25 Million At Kirikiri Lighter Terminal

In a significant operation underscoring the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to combat illicit drug trafficking, the Customs Area Comptroller of Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Compt. Joy Eghosa Edeldouk, announced the interception of a large consignment of cannabis indica. The seizure, weighing 51.25kg and valued at N256,250,000, was made on September 11th in collaboration with the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

During a press briefing held at the terminal, Compt. Edeldouk emphasized the grave impact of such substances on society, highlighting the potential for increased crime, violence, and societal decay. “By keeping these dangerous substances out of our communities, we are preventing untold harm and helping secure a safer future for our citizens, particularly our youth,” she stated.

The consignment, along with the suspects involved, has been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution. Compt. Edeldouk issued a stern warning to those involved in illegal importation, asserting that the NCS remains unwavering in its duty to protect the nation’s borders and will ensure that violators face the full weight of the law.

She also reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to facilitating legitimate trade while maintaining strict vigilance against contraband. “To the law-abiding citizens and legitimate traders, we remain committed to ensuring that the facilitation of legitimate trade is unhindered,” she assured.

Compt. Edeldouk expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, and his management team for their support and guidance. She pledged that the officers and men of the command would continue to uphold the mandate of the service with dedication and integrity.
