CP Port Police Command,Pays Familiarisation Visit To NAGAFF HQs

The National Association vof Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) ,on Wednesday ,20 November,2024,played host to the new Commissioner of Police ,Port Police Command ,Mr Ibrahim Balarebe Maikaba ,at its Headquarters,in Apapa.
The visit of the Commissioner was to familiarise himself with key stakeholders in the port community.

Speaking during the visit ,CP Ibrahim stated that the purpose of the visit was to familiarise himself with NAGAFF.
He said,” We are here to get familiar with NAGAFF.From the briefing I had ,we have been having cordial relationship with NAGAFF,and we want that to continue”.

Addressing the CP,Founder of NAGAFF and the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Dr Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam,welcomed the August visitor ,and described him as thorough professional who has traversed the the Nigerian police ,and made indelible marks in all places he had served
Aniebonam warned members of NAGAFF not to take advantage of the visit of the Commissioner of police to perpetrate crime.

” We have no reason to take advantage of the visit of the CP,and go and commit crime.The best way we can support him is to be law abiding”Dr Aniebonam admonished.

He added ,” If you want to protect yourself,be on the part of the law”.
The NAGAFF and NNPP Founder affirmed that Nigerians have the best of friends in the Nigerian police.He said NAGAFF is very close to the Nigerian police,and gave an impressive long history of relationship between NAGAFF and the Nigerian police.
Dr Aniebonam assured the CP of the support of the association ,noting that NAGAFF is an association that cherishes integrity and as such does not get itself involved in acts of criminality.
” This is your home”, Aniebonam told the CP. ” We are not involved in criminality and any member that involves in criminality should consider himself or herself not a member of NAGAFF”Aniebonam said.
On the issue of operational challenges , particularly with entrance into the port,Dr Aniebonam said port pass should not be an issue,as it would cost the Nigerian Ports Authority nothing to issue port pass to port users,in this case the freight forwarders.

He suggested an interim measure to mitigate the issue of port pass ,by advising that NAGAFF leaders should do a register of members of NAGAFF and forward same to the police for record purposes.He suggested that temporary port pass can be issued to the freight
forwarders ,pending when the NPA could come up with issuance of port port pass.
He informed that the sitting General Secretary of NAGAFF is now the Registrar of Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria ( CRFFN).

Dr Aniebonam vowed that NAGAFF would do everything possible to ensure that CRFFN works.
Earlier the National President of NAGAFF,High Chief Tochhukwu Ezisi had told the CP that NAGAFF has long standing cordial relationship with the police.He said NAGAFF is a place that gives good luck to its visitors, pointing to several police officers who paid visit to the association,and within a short time of their visit, they got elevated to a higher rank.
He prayed that the same fate will shine on the CP,even as he assured of the total support of the Association.”We assure 100% support from NAGAFF” Ezisi said.
Deputy president Headquarters,Fwdr.Simeon Nwonu ,on his part, pleaded with the CP to look into the harassment of NAGAFF members at the port gate over port pass.He pledged that NAGAFF would support the regime of the CP, Ibrahim Balarebe Maikaba.
