CGC Adeniyi to Receive ‘Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year’ Award from Nigerian Maritime Journalists

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, is set to be honored as the “Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024” by the Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NMJ). The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Lagos Airport Hotel,Ikeja,Lagos.
The decision to honor CGC Adeniyi was unanimously made by maritime journalists from various associations, including the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), League of Maritime Editors (LOME), Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN), Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN), Online Maritime Media Association of Nigeria (OMMAN), and Congress of Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP).
In a statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Award Planning Committee, Mr. Dele Aderibigbe and Mr. Innocent Orok, it was highlighted that CGC Adeniyi has demonstrated exceptional performance since assuming office. His achievements span across revenue collection, anti-smuggling activities, trade facilitation, national security, staff welfare, inter-agency collaboration, infrastructural upgrades, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The nomination letter from Mr. Innocent Orok emphasized that CGC Adeniyi’s record-breaking performance has garnered both national and international recognition, including a recent award from the Leadership Newspaper Group as the Public Service Personality of the Year.
Mr. Dele Aderibigbe, Chairman of the Award Planning Committee, noted that this award is particularly significant as it marks the first time all maritime journalists have come together to honor a single individual. He praised CGC Adeniyi for his purposeful, professional, and patriotic leadership, which has reconnected the Nigeria Customs Service to international frontiers and led to significant advancements in various areas.
The award ceremony is expected to attract special guests, including heads of other agencies and maritime stakeholders, to celebrate this historic event in the Nigerian maritime industry.
The ceremony comes up on Thursday, 16th January, 2025 at the Apapa Port Customs Command Auditorium, by 12 noon prompt.
