CCC Applauds Nigeria Customs Service For Exceptional Performance, Urges Sustained Reforms

The Customs Consultative Committee (CCC) has lauded the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its outstanding efforts in enforcing import regulations and boosting national revenue under the National Strategic Economic Development Plan (NSEDP).
In a press statement signed by Fwdr Eugene Nweke Rff., Secretary of the CCC, the committee highlighted the recent achievements of the NCS, particularly at the Apapa Port Command, where officers intercepted eleven containers loaded with prohibited and restricted goods, including unregistered pharmaceuticals and expired margarine. The seized items, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦921,021,213, were described as a “clear testament to the NCS’s commitment to national security and economic growth.”
The CCC credited the leadership of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for spearheading reforms and maintaining operational excellence. According to the committee, his vision has been pivotal in driving the agency’s successes and aligning operations with the objectives of the NSEDP.
To sustain this momentum, the CCC put forward several recommendations, including regular capacity-building programs for officers, enhanced stakeholder engagement, improved risk assessment mechanisms, and the adoption of advanced technologies. It also emphasized the importance of educating the trading public about the Customs Act 2023 through workshops and campaigns.
The statement further urged the NCS to reinforce its core values—referred to as the 7Cs of Customs: Courtesy, Competence, Consistency, Compliance, Control, Communication, and Compliance—as well as uphold the principles of the Alushta Declaration on Customs Integrity.
Additionally, the CCC called for an upgrade to the NCS’s server infrastructure and bandwidth to support the B’Odogwu digital platform, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and minimizing downtimes.
The committee recommended a six-month timeline for the implementation of these initiatives and expressed confidence in the NCS’s ability to maintain its trajectory of excellence.
“The CCC reiterates its unwavering support for the Nigeria Customs Service and looks forward to continued collaboration to promote national development and trade facilitation,” the statement concluded.
