The newly elected President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, recently received executives of the Barge Operators Association of Nigeria (BOAN) at the union’s national secretariat located on Osho Drive, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos.
Leading the BOAN delegation was the Association’s Vice President, Mr. Hyginus Chichebem Ndukwe, who described the visit as both a congratulatory and strategic one. According to him, BOAN came not only to celebrate Comrade Bunu’s landslide victory in the recent MWUN elections but also to build a pathway for future collaboration between both organizations.
Speaking during the interactive session, Ndukwe expressed confidence in the leadership of MWUN, describing the union as a formidable force in the maritime sector capable of fostering inclusive and mutually beneficial partnerships. He emphasized BOAN’s willingness to collaborate with MWUN in areas of shared interest, particularly as it concerns improving operational efficiency and synergy within Nigeria’s maritime industry.
In response, Comrade Bunu welcomed the BOAN delegation warmly, assuring them of the Union’s openness to genuine collaborations. The Delta-born labour leader, a seasoned sailor, maritime expert, and trained administrator, reaffirmed MWUN’s commitment to industrial harmony and strategic partnerships that promote sectoral growth.
He thanked the BOAN executives for their thoughtful visit and expressed optimism about establishing a fruitful working relationship once discussions mature into actionable proposals.
The meeting marks the beginning of what both parties hope will be a sustained engagement aimed at advancing the collective interests of workers and operators within the maritime space.
