MWUN Issues Strict Guidelines Ahead Of Branch Elections, Bans Campaign Materials At Ports, Terminals

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has issued a stern directive to all its members and contestants in the forthcoming branches elections, prohibiting the display of campaign materials at strategic maritime locations across the country.

In a press release signed by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media for MWUN, the union, under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, warned against the use of fliers, banners, stickers, and any form of campaign imagery at Quay Aprons, Port Terminals, Jetties, Oil & Gas platforms, on-board vessels, and Union offices nationwide.

While reaffirming the right of every member to participate in the electoral process, the Union emphasized the need for discipline, peaceful conduct, and unity throughout the campaign period.

“The Union recognizes the right of every member to participate or contest the Union’s elective positions,” the statement reads, “but it is imperative that contestants and members must abide by the rules by eschewing campaigns of bitterness and observing peace and decorum.”

MWUN further warned that it would take decisive action against any individual or group found violating the directive, stressing that the union’s peaceful status would not be compromised under any guise.

The latest directive is part of MWUN’s efforts to maintain order and decorum as it prepares for its internal elections.
