Nigeria Customs Service Refutes False Claims Of Comptroller-General’s Tenure Extension

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has firmly denied recent reports suggesting an extension of the tenure of its Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. The NCS has labeled the alleged release, purportedly originating from the State House, as both inaccurate and misleading.

In an official statement issued on 1 April 2025, and signed Abdullahi Maiwada,Assistant Comptroller of Customs ,and National Public Relations Officer of the service,the NCS clarified that the authority to appoint or extend the tenure of the Comptroller-General of Customs lies exclusively with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as stipulated in the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023. The statement emphasized that no directive regarding such an extension has been communicated to the NCS by the appropriate authorities.

The leadership of the NCS has reiterated its commitment to its core responsibilities, including trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security. Under the stewardship of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, the Service continues to execute reforms aimed at modernizing customs operations, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and contributing to national economic development.

The NCS has also urged members of the public and stakeholders to rely on official channels for accurate information concerning its activities and personnel changes. The Service reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, professionalism, and its mission to serve the nation effectively.
