Seme Customs Celebrates Outstanding Officer, Bids Farewell To Retiring Deputy Comptroller Edime

The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday held a colourful send-forth ceremony in honour of two distinguished officers — Deputy Comptroller Edime, who is retiring from active service, and Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) Isah Sulaiman, who has been redeployed to the Apapa Area Command.

The event, which held at the Senior Officers’ Mess, Seme Command, was attended by heads of military and paramilitary agencies, stakeholders, and journalists, all gathered to celebrate the officers’ remarkable contributions to the Service.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Wale Adenuga, showered encomiums on both officers, especially the outgoing Public Relations Officer, CSC Sulaiman, whom he described as a model of professionalism and dedication.

Adenuga said he enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Sulaiman and expressed confidence that he would excel in his new posting to Apapa Command.
“He is an officer with uncommon organisational skills, industry, and a deep sense of duty. I have no doubt he will succeed anywhere he goes,” Adenuga stated.
On retiring DC Edime, Adenuga commended him for a meritorious career and urged him to remain active in retirement. “Retirement is not a death sentence. It is a transition, and with proper planning, it can be fulfilling,” he advised.

Military and paramilitary representatives also showered praises on Sulaiman, describing him as a consummate image maker whose humility, commitment, and stakeholder-engagement skills significantly strengthened the Command’s public interface.
According to them, “Sulaiman served with distinction and unwavering dedication. He embodies what an image maker should be.”
Journalists at the ceremony echoed similar sentiments, describing Sulaiman as “a journalist’s delight” who executes his duties with finesse and exceptional courtesy.
Responding, DC Edime expressed gratitude to the CAC and the Command for honouring him, saying he was grateful to retire while still healthy and active.
He encouraged younger officers to plan early for retirement.
In an emotional speech, CSC Sulaiman said he never expected such a ceremony in his honour, noting that this level of recognition is usually reserved for senior officers.
“I am deeply humbled to be celebrated in this way. Serving under CAC Adenuga has been a privilege. He creates room for officers to excel,” he said.
The high point of the event was the presentation of awards for meritorious service and dedication to duty to both DC Edime and CSC Sulaiman by Comptroller Adenuga.
The ceremony ended with warm wishes for the retirees and the redeployed officer, as colleagues and guests prayed for their continued success in the next chapters of their lives.
