It was a night of deep reflection, spiritual awakening, and sober contemplation as friends, colleagues, and members of the freight and maritime community gathered at the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Headquarters, Apapa, for the wake keep of the late Dr. Austin Kelly.

In a powerful and emotionally charged ministration, renowned evangelist and spiritual leader, Dr. Clement Iwegbuna, popularly known as Omenma, delivered a message that held the audience spellbound, urging all present to reflect on the fleeting nature of life and the certainty of death.
Speaking with passion, Dr. Iwegbuna described death as “an abrupt end of life”, a state where a once lively person becomes unreachable, motionless, and silent. He recalled his personal encounters with the late Dr. Kelly, noting that the deceased was full of life, activity, and camaraderie only a short while ago.
“We were with him eating, drinking, talking, doing all the normal things men do. Today, he is no more. What is this life?”
he asked, provoking quiet introspection among attendees.

Drawing his text from Hebrews 9:27, he reminded the gathering that “it is appointed unto man once to die, and after this, judgement.” He emphasized that life on earth is only a moment compared to eternity, stressing that every individual would one day give account of their deeds.
He added that while the dead face their judgment, the living must examine themselves daily.
“You that is living here with me, who knows who will die next? Nobody knows the day it will be his turn. That is why we must guide ourselves every minute,”
Iwegbuna said, warning listeners to consider how they live, conduct their businesses, and relate with others.
Reading from Psalm 1:1–6, he contrasted the fate of the righteous with that of the ungodly, describing the wicked as “chaff blown away by the wind.” He urged the audience to question themselves honestly: “Are you among the wicked or among the righteous?”

In a dramatic illustration, he compared the respect people give to influential figures—such as presidents—to the disregard often shown toward the word of God.
“Seek relevance where it is most necessary — in the presence of God,”
he admonished.
Turning his message toward legacy, the cleric noted that Dr. Austin Kelly lived a life that left impact and memories behind. He urged attendees to reflect on what their own legacies would be after they depart the earth.
“What will you be remembered for? The testimony of people you live with here will stand either for or against you in heaven,”
he said, adding that people’s praises or complaints after one’s death remain part of the eternal record.
Dr. Iwegbuna closed his ministration with a prayer that all present would not only reflect on righteousness, but also remain steadfast in it until the last day.
The wake keep was attended by stakeholders from across the maritime sector, family members, friends, and associates of the late Dr. Kelly, who was described as a dedicated professional and pillar within the freight forwarding community

Indeed,it was a night of sober reflections as harvests of tributes from family members, friends , colleagues and associates pour in in celebration of the late maritime guru.
From Dr Rafiu Ladipo,first President of National Association of Customs licenced Agents ,ANCLA,to Chief Taiwo Oyeniyi,another chieftain of ANCLA down to Founder of New Nigerian Peoples party NNPP and National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders , NAGAFF,are confirmed that the late Dr Austin Kelly,was a gregarious and personable personality who livee a life of generosity , integrity and unwavering commitment to the growth of the maritime industry.
In an emotionally laden voice and droppings of tears from her face ,the daughter of late Dr Austin Kelly, Vivian Awana, giving his father’s citation,described him as a man of integrity who gave his all to humanity,and lived a life of service and selflessness .

“Chief Kelly lived a life defined by integrity, excellence, and service to humanity” Vivian declared. She added:
” Beyond his professional life, Chief of the Office was a compassionate philanthropist and a deep advocate for education. He believed education was the greatest legacy one could give to a child and sponsored scholarships for African students in secondary and tertiary education. His generosity and humanity with deep love for life, especially within his hometown, Ibuzo, in Delta State was incredible.”
The ceremony was spiced with music rendition from the Ogene cultural outfit,as guests were lavishly entertained ,with foods and drinks.
Dr. Austin Kelly’s burial activities continue as colleagues honour his contributions and reflect on the message echoed throughout the night — life is brief, but its impact lasts forever.
