RSIEC Commends MWUN For Swift Delivery Of Electoral Materials In Rivers

By Frank Odinukaeze

The Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Dr. Michael Odey, has applauded the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) for ensuring the timely distribution of electoral materials across riverine areas in the state during Saturday’s local government elections.

Dr. Odey, who described the logistics effort as a “paradigm shift,” said the commission had reached a special arrangement with MWUN to guarantee prompt and efficient delivery of voting materials to all 12 littoral local government areas in Rivers State.

According to him, the Union deployed about 300 speedboats manned by seafarers and boat operators to ferry election materials to designated polling locations ahead of schedule.

“The prompt and seamless distribution of electoral materials to the riverine communities this time around is unprecedented. There were no delays or complaints, thanks to the professionalism and commitment of the Maritime Workers Union under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi,” Dr. Odey stated.

The RSIEC boss added that the Union’s active supervision of its members was critical in achieving the successful logistics operation. He expressed satisfaction with the execution, noting that voters in remote areas had access to materials without the usual hitches associated with past elections.

In his reaction, in a press statement,Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media for MWUN, reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to national service beyond its maritime responsibilities, stressing that the exercise demonstrated the Union’s capacity to deliver when called upon.
